The easiest way to get the Zonbu OS is to order a Zonbu device. All of our products come with the Zonbu OS preinstalled.
If you'd like to run the Zonbu OS on your current computer, you can use the Live DVD. Alternatively, you can run the Zonbu OS side by side with your current OS using a virtual machine.
The Kiosk Edition turns Zonbu into a highly secure public access computer. Perfect for schools, libraries, lobbies, and more!
The Open Source Edition was designed for customers wanting to try the Zonbu OS without using the remote storage on Amazon S3. You don't need a login account for Open Source Edition; actually, the login screen is bypassed completely.
The Developer Edition gives advanced users full control of their system and the ability to install applications. However, there is no Zonbu support for the Developer Edition beyond this documentation.
The Open Source and Developer Editions are not mutually exclusive.
Initially, the Zonbu OS was designed and optimized for Zonbu hardware (Zonbu Mini or Zonbu Notebook). These versions of Zonbu OS are numbered from 5.783 to 7.1315.
In May 2008, we released a new version that can run on any computer, numbered 2008.05. This version is available through a Live DVD.
Interested in getting administrative / root privileges? By default, the Zonbu OS disables sudo. Nevertheless, you can enable it. To enable root access in versions 7.1315 an earlier, look here. For versions 2008.05 and later, look here.
