ZONBU MAKES OPEN SOURCE EDITION OF AWARD-WINNING SOFTWARE AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD VIA NEWLY REDESIGNED SITE

Starting Today, anyone can download, install and run the Zonbu "hybrid" operating system on virtually any PC; Zonbu also comes preloaded on affordable hardware from leading providers

Menlo Park, CA, May 13, 2007 /-- Zonbu, the pioneering company with a mission to deliver affordable, hassle-free computing, today announced a new effort to distribute its award-winning operating system and open source software applications bundle, via free download on its newly redesigned web site (http://www.zonbu.com). Zonbu refers to its unique offering as a "hybrid" OS because it combines a linux-based desktop OS with a cloud-based webOS. Zonbu's push to make this "beta" version available free will allow consumers, educators and small business owners to cost-effectively evaluate Zonbu for use at home, school or in the workplace.

"Today marks an exciting leap forward toward our goal of bringing affordable, hassle-free computing to mainstream audiences," said Gregoire Gentil, CEO of Zonbu. "We've certainly enjoyed positive feedback and encouragement from customers who have purchased the Zonbu Mini and Zonbu Notebook, and now we see an opportunity to more fully embrace an open source business model and extend our unique offering to a broader market."

Zonbu's hybrid OS combines a robust, yet familiar and easy-to-use, desktop operating system with complementary, cloud-based services for data storage, automatic backups, remote access from any browser, and the ability to edit and share documents and files on the fly. By decoupling the Zonbu software from proprietary hardware, the company aims to entice a new audience to try the Zonbu experience first-hand, with no upfront commitment to purchase a new PC.

Today the Zonbu software is making its debut in "beta", or early release, as developers continue quality assurance testing to ensure compatibility with various desktop and laptop configurations available in the marketplace. "In the spirit of open source software development and in response to market demand to run Zonbu on a broad array of hardware platforms, we are releasing our latest build for linux developers and end-users alike to download, install, and evaluate," added Gentil. "The creation of this rapid feedback loop is instrumental in the process of innovation."

For individuals intrigued by the notion of hybrid computing, but lacking a PC or laptop to run Zonbu, the company has dramatically expanded the range of systems on which to order Zonbu preinstalled and configured. Visitors may opt to purchase a Zonbu system either direct via the web site, or via participating vendors, including eRacks, the open source systems specialists, or Journey Systems, purveyor of custom-built computing solutions. In addition, Zonbu has partnered with PC Recyclers and Rebuilders to offer low-cost, refurbished PCs with Zonbu preinstalled to students and educators for $99.
