Zonbu Staffer,
It has been several months since the last OS update. Are we getting an update anytime soon, or have you taken the summer off? Also, what is the status of Banshee and/or a possible replacement?????

There's one currently in the works. It will include an updated version of Banshee.

We are a patient bunch, you know, but we* are very much wanting our Firefoxes to be three (everyone else is) and our Banshees to complain less frequently (along with a host of other minor problems ironed out I'm sure).
Can you tell us - hint to us - when we will be 'always up to date'?
(*: by 'we' I am making an assumption about everyone else. I can't say I've actually done a survey.)

I'm with you on this, Bob. I am taking into consideration that this update is probably the most major thus far, being one that can run on any PC, but it would be nice to get a ballpark figure as to when this is coming.
One of the things we've paid for (and is advertised all over the site) is for our programs to always be updated to the latest stable versions. Obviously, this isn't happening, especially with Firefox and Banshee, which you've already mentioned in your post. With Firefox I am a little more patient, but I really want/need the latest update of Banshee, seeing as I use the program so much.

We apologize that the next update is taking a while, but as has been said, it's a pretty big feat to get Zonbu to run on arbitrary PC hardware, and so it's taking a little longer to pull it off. And we're also including a few major application upgrades, so that's also partly to blame. We apologize that we can't be more specific about when the update will be released, but rest assured that it is being actively worked on. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Good to have a reply - thanks.
How about a mini-update instead? "The last of the 7.x" series? Then us Faithful Ones will be once again Up To Date? (While you're fixing the all-singing, everyone playing update?)

I'm not in Release Engineering, but the current plan is to release one Grand Unified Update that will merge the 7.x Zonbu-hardware-specific line with the 2008.05 Live-DVD line, and then we'll only have to deal with one codebase for future updates. So yes, until the Grand Update is released, my understanding is that there won't be any intervening updates for 7.x We apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime, but assure you that this is the start of great improvements for Zonbu and will increase our userbase (which means more goodies for all customers).

Awesome! That's all I needed to hear, Chris. Thanks so much for the update.
As I posted before, I know that this is a major overhaul, and so I can understand why it's taking so long. Great to hear that there will be lots of improvements and "goodies" moving forward. I am a total Zonbu convert, owning both the Mini and the Notebook, and touting the OS to anyone who'll listen. I am sure that whatever the company is working on will knock our socks off. Of course, this makes us even more excited and impatient. LOL
Thanks again for the quick and informative post. Much appreciated.

And when the shiny Unified Zonbu arrives, will it have Evolution 2.22.x in it? (It says it works with Google Calendars, has fewer memory requirement and a nicer interface.)

It's a distinct possibility, but no promises.
